I couldnt agree more, some of the people I see achieve black belt and beyond, it makes me sick to see the one of the first virtues we stand for [integrity] is being lost in the money hungry battle to just simply survive in the World today.

I remember that last fall there was an arrogant brute that used to pick fights with people at the dojo just to show off. I tried to ignore him. I would just mind my own business and spar with anyone that needed a sparring partner. Tai Chi, Judo, Taekwondo. The dojo was my home away from home. I trained there for years. Although I have been practicing martial arts for many years, I still have a white belt. I’ve never competed and I never bothered to formally go through the forms to progress. A belt of a different color never meant anything to me. I used to train under two teachers and a retired Chinese police officer. These three men taught me all that I know about fighting. I loved the dojo. Once you get used to the pain, it really is a peaceful place. Well, it was until this thug showed up. One day he went around picking on all of the white belts. He made the mistake of challenging me of all people. Tomoe Nage and the match was over. Just like that. He never picked on anyone ever again.

I want to start competing. Maybe earn the belts that I should have earned a long time ago. I need to go back to the gym. And hit it hard. I used to be built like King Leonidas. I need my old body back if I’m to survive the fights against the bigger guys. It’s time to go back and do some hardcore training.
